Intro to Tatting

April 18, 2019 @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$65.00

During this 3 hour workshop you will learn how tatting works.  You will begin with using two contrasting colors to learn the “flip” used to form the non-knots required to form the double-stitches that make tatting work. This will help you to understand the relationship between your core thread and the working thread.  You will be learning to make the chains and loops needed to create your first project.   You will also learn what a picot is and how reversing your work contributes to the design of what you are making. This will lead to your first project: a necklace that you will be able to take home.

All supplies included.

Your instructor Leslie has been doing needle work for over 60 years, learning several different techniques from her mother, father, and grandmother.  The Coat of Arms that hangs in the Senate Chamber in the Bahamas is one of her pieces.  It was commissioned from her mother’s Yarn and Knit Shop in Fort Fincastle, Nassau Bahamas in 1973 just after the Bahamas gained independence from the UK.  Tatting is a particular passion for Leslie’s and she is committed to sharing tatting sot that it will not become a lost art.  She is currently an active member of the Palmettos Tatters Guild, The American Sewing Guild, and the Crochet Guild of America.
